MO Tietan Divination System

By Jamgon Mipham, fore. by His Holiness Sakya Trizin, trans. & ed. by Jay Goldberg

The Tibetan divination system called MO has been relied upon for centuries to give insight into the future turns of events, undertakings, and relationships. It is a clear and simple method involving two rolls of a die to reveal one of the thirty-six possible outcomes described in the text. This MO, which obtains its power from Manjushri, was developed by the great master Jamgon Mipham from sacred texts expounded by the Buddha.

The MO works with any 6-sided die, however, a single die is available with the Manjushri mantra on it.

"This English translation of a Tibetan divination manual opens a new portal into the realm of Tibetan studies."--Tsepak Rigzin, Research and Translation Officer at the Library of Tibetan Works & Archives

"The stunningly simple Mo: Tibetan Divination is an ancient Tibetan predictive technique for forecasting the outcome of events, undertakings and relationships. Mo's approach is refreshingly different from the other oracle systems around...Mo's results seemed highly relevant, nourishing, inspiring, and best of all, authoritative."--Richard Leviton, Yoga Journal

Jamgon Mipham (1846-1912) was one of the most illustrious scholars of Tibet.

? "Using a Mala in Place of Dice"
by Jay Goldberg

It is possible to do the MO prediction using prayer beads. It's a little more complicated to describe in words, but worth the effort.

After blessing the rosary with the appropriate mantras (just as you would with the dice) hold the the mala with the index finger and thumb of your left hand. Then going along a stretch of the rosary with your right hand, stop at any arbitrary spot and hold that bead with the index finger and thumb of the left hand also. At this point you have two parts of the rosary held between the thumb and index finger of the left hand. Now, go along the rosary again with your right hand and stop at any spot that feels appropriate. At this point, start counting beads by sixes with your right hand. Your right hand is moving in the direction toward your left hand. When you reach 6 beads or less between your right hand and your left hand, that is the number for your first prediction. For example, if 1 bead remains between the 2 hands, then that is the letter A; if 2 beads remain that is the letter RA; if 3 remain PA; if 4 remian TSA; if 5 remain NA; and if 6 remain the letter DHIH. Next, starting at the point where your left hand is holding the rosary, hold that spot with your right hand and then count once again by six beads at a time the beads remaining between your right hand and your left hand. When you get to six beads or less, that is your second letter for the prediction. This will be easy to understand when you see it. I hope this helps.

? The runes are an ancient oracle that was used by the Norse peoples, pre-dating the tarot by a millennium. Each rune has a symbolic letter from the Norse alphabet carved into it. Similar to tarot readings, runes are cast and then interpretted according to their correlations.
